Presidential and State Primaries Scheduling

Consolidated Primaries: yes

Oklahoma is one of the states that have merged their presidential and state primaries. On a Presidential Election year, presidential primaries and State primaries are scheduled to run on the same days

Voters, in Ohio primary election can choose to vote for candidates of either political party or choose to vote only on the issues, regardless of current or existing party affiliation.

When voting, voters must request which ballot they prefer. If a voter requests a political party-affiliated ballot, they will then be registered with or change their registration to that political party. Political party affiliations in Ohio can only be changed by requesting a different political party ballot in another primary election.

An unaffiliated voter may decide not to participate in either party's primary and will be given the amendments/referendum ballot only.

Delegates and Presidential Primaries

The presidential primary process involves selecting delegates who will represent the state at the party's national convention. Delegates selected from the primary elections attend the party's national convention, where they officially nominate the presidential candidate. The candidate with the majority of delegates becomes the party's nominee for the presidential election. Candidates Ballot access rules vary depending on the candidate’s political party.
