Elector Pledge and Electoral College Votes Allocation

Missouri is one of the 48 states that have a winner-takes-all rule for the Electoral College. In these States, whichever candidate receives a majority of the popular vote, or a plurality of the popular vote (less than 50 percent but more than any other candidate), takes all of the state’s Electoral votes.Missouri is one of the states that do not require their electors to vote as pledged.

How Does Missouri Select Its Electors?

  • The state committee of each established political party shall certify in writing to the secretary of state the names of its nominees for presidential elector. At least one qualified resident of each congressional district shall be named as a nominee for presidential elector by each state committee.

When Do The Electors Vote?

  • The presidential electors shall attend at the seat of government by the hour of two o'clock in the afternoon of the day appointed by act of congress for their meeting. If any of the electors appointed shall fail to attend then the electors present may appoint other persons to act as electors in the place of those absent.
