Kansas is one of the 48 states that have a winner-takes-all rule for the Electoral College. In these States, whichever candidate receives a majority of the popular vote, or a plurality of the popular vote (less than 50 percent but more than any other candidate), takes all of the state’s Electoral votes.Kansas is one of the states that do not require their electors to vote as pledged.

How Does Kansas Select Its Electors?

  • Presidential electors for presidential candidates shall be selected by the state committee of the political party of the candidates, if there is such a committee. Names of the presidential electors so selected shall be certified to the secretary of state by the chairperson of the committee. Party nominations for presidential electors can be made only by a delegate or mass convention or caucus of qualified electors belonging to a political party having a national or state organization.

When Do The Electors Vote?

  • The electors of president and vice-president of the United States shall convene at the capital of the state on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December after their election, at the hour of twelve o'clock at noon of that day
